Bridge collapses, 2 bodies recovered in Kwara

Men of the Kwara State Fire Service say they have recovered the corpses of the two remaining flood victims of the Oko Erin bridge collapse in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara state.

Duaglobalnews recalls that the two bodies were among the four victims declared missing as a result of the collapsed bridge and flood that followed due to the heavy rainfall last Saturday night.

The Public Relations Officer of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in a statement,gave the names of the recovered bodies as Chuben Orwabo and Chibike Orwabo, adding that their remains had been handed over their family.

He said the body of the two victims, said to the children of the same parents and who also lost their father in the disaster, were found at the back of the Kasmag Motors, Unity road.

The online publication recalls that the corpse of the Okechukwu Orwabo, father of the children, had earlierbeen found at CocaCola area of Ilorin last Sunday afternoon.

Duaglobalnews also recalls that the victims, including the two recovered bodies, were inside a vehicle passing through the bridge when it suddenly caved and due heavy rain and plunged the vehicle and its occupants into the river at about 10.30 p.m last Saturday.

Men of the service were immediately dispatched to the area to rescue the victims.

Meanwhile, the Kwara state government has commiserated with the families of the flood victims,

The Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, who expressed sympathy over the disaster, described it as disheartening, adding that “any loss of life is tragic and traumatic.”

He, therefore,urged the people to desist from dumping refuse in drainage or building on waterways to prevent flooding or erosion of bridges.
