An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Thomas Olamilekan, to two years imprisonment for breaking into a residence and stealing building materials valued at N728,000.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, delivered the judgment on Monday, sentencing the convict to two years in a correctional centre with an option of a N100,000 fine.

Fadairo held that the prosecution successfully established its case beyond reasonable doubt and found Olamilekan guilty of the offences brought against him.

Earlier during the trial, the prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the incident occurred on May 3 at Tewogbade Street, Ayomikun CDA, off Baba Ekiti Ntabo area of Ijoko, Ota.

According to the prosecutor, Olamilekan unlawfully broke into the residence of one Opeyemi Onanuga and carted away cable wires, aluminium glass windows and other building materials valued at N728,000.

Adaraloye further stated that the offences contravene Sections 390(9) and 411(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

The court subsequently convicted and sentenced the defendant accordingly.
