A political pressure group in Kogi State, Ododo Vanguard, has called for wider consultations, fairness, and respect for the longstanding rotational arrangement guiding political offices in the Ogori/Magongo constituency..
This, the group noted, followed growing speculation in some political circles that the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Bode Ogunmola, could be considered for another term in the State House of Assembly.
In a statement issued by the Convener of the group, Meka Adesina-Soje, the development has generated growing concern and intense debate among stakeholders and indigenes of both Ogori and Magongo communities.
The group stressed that political decisions with deep communal implications should be handled with caution, broad consultation, and sensitivity to the historical balance that has sustained peace and unity in the constituency over the years.
According to the statement, the peaceful coexistence enjoyed in Ogori/Magongo has largely been built on mutual respect, fairness, political accommodation, and an unwritten understanding of rotational balance between the two communities.
Ododo Vanguard noted that any move perceived as undermining those principles could trigger feelings of exclusion and apprehension among sections of the constituency.
The statement added that consultations with stakeholders across the constituency revealed a prevailing demand for equity, political inclusion, and balanced development comparable to what obtains in other parts of the state, including Okene, Adavi, and Okehi local government areas.
The group argued that political considerations and developmental projects should reflect equal treatment across all communities, insisting that βwhat is good for the goose should also be good for the gander.β
It further maintained that the rotational understanding surrounding the House of Assembly seat and the Chairmanship position in Ogori/Magongo remains a vital stabilising factor capable of strengthening trust, unity, and peaceful coexistence.
While urging residents and political actors to remain calm, the group cautioned against actions capable of creating division or weakening the longstanding brotherhood between both communities.
βAt this critical moment, all stakeholders, leaders, supporters, and community members are urged to exercise restraint, wisdom, and maturity,β the statement said.
Ododo Vanguard emphasized that dialogue, statesmanship, fairness, and sincere engagement with the people must guide political decisions in the constituency, adding that the collective interest of Ogori/Magongo should take precedence over personal political ambitions.
The group also prayed for the sustenance of peace, justice, fairness, and unity within the constituency ahead of future political activities.
