The 36 Political Elevation Group (36 PEG) has called on Nigerians across the country and in the diaspora to take advantage of the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to strengthen democracy and ensure greater participation in the nation’s electoral process.
In a statement issued by the Director General of the group, Hon.Chief Sanmi Isola Oluleye on Saturday in Lokoja,the organisation commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for commencing Phase III of the nationwide CVR exercise scheduled to begin on May 11 and end on July 10, 2026.
The group described the exercise as a vital democratic process that would give eligible citizens the opportunity to register as new voters, transfer their voter registration to new locations, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and update personal details where necessary.
The group stressed that a credible democracy can only thrive when citizens actively participate in the electoral process, noting that the voter’s card remains a powerful tool for demanding accountability and good governance.
According to 36 PEG, both online pre-registration and physical registration would be available during the exercise, while INEC would continue with the IVED rotation system earlier adopted in Phase II of the registration programme.
The organisation further urged traditional rulers, religious bodies, civil society organisations, student unions, market associations, and diaspora groups to mobilise eligible Nigerians to participate massively in the exercise.
It warned that failure to register or update voter information could lead to disenfranchisement during future elections, especially ahead of the 2027 general polls.
Reaffirming its commitment to credible and inclusive elections, the group pledged continued collaboration with stakeholders and electoral authorities to ensure that no eligible Nigerian is left out of the democratic process.
