Fresh indications that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will seek a second term in office emerged on Tuesday as his close ally, Hon. James Faleke, obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on his behalf.
Political observers said that the development signals an early start to the President’s re-election campaign, even as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The forms were formally presented in Abuja by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, who announced the commencement of the party’s nomination process.
Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency and founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, received the documents in what insiders describe as a strategic and symbolic move within the ruling party.
Widely regarded as one of Tinubu’s most trusted political associates, Faleke’s involvement underscores the deep-rooted relationship between both men, built over decades of political collaboration.
His proximity to the President has often been cited as evidence of a rare level of trust within Nigeria’s political space.
The nomination forms, which cost N100 million, are considered a critical step in the electoral process and are widely interpreted as a formal declaration of President Tinubu’s intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Political analysts believe the early procurement of the forms may give the ruling party an advantage in consolidating internal structures, managing potential rival interests, and setting the tone for what is expected to be a competitive electoral cycle.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has released the timetable for the 2027 general elections.
According to the electoral body, Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
INEC further disclosed that political parties will conduct their primaries, including the resolution of disputes arising from them, between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
Campaigns for Presidential and National Assembly elections are set to commence on August 19, 2026, while those for governorship and State Assembly contests will begin on September 9, 2026.
With these timelines in place, the stage appears set for an intense political season, as parties fine-tune their strategies and aspirants position themselves for what promises to be a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
