What began as a heated social media clash between two Nollywood stars ended quietly in a courtroom on Tuesday, as the Federal High Court discharged actress Angela Okorie and struck out the defamation charge against her.
Our correspondent reports that the case, which had drawn public attention and stirred conversations across entertainment circles, took an unexpected turn when the prosecution opted to discontinue proceedings.
When the matter was called, the counsel to the police, Victor Okoye, rose to inform the court that he had been directed to withdraw the charge.
He told Justice Emeka Nwite that the decision was in line with Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, following an amicable resolution between the parties.
The Counsel to the actress, Emerie Onyemelukwe, did not oppose the application.
In a brief response that underscored the new mood of reconciliation, he told the court, “That is the position, my lord.”
With no objections raised, Justice Nwite promptly struck out the charge and discharged Okorie, bringing the case to a definitive close.
The dispute had originated from a petition filed by fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie, who accused Okorie of cyberbullying.
Acting on the complaint, the Inspector-General of Police filed a seven-count charge bordering on cyberstalking and defamation.
At the heart of the allegations were claims that Okorie, alongside one Ifeoma Mbonu,said to be at large,used social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok, to publish offensive content, allegedly referring to Johnson-Okojie in demeaning terms.
The Reporters recalls that earlier in the proceedings, on January 30, the court had granted Okorie bail in the sum of N5 million, following her re-arraignment on the amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/278/2025.
However, in a twist that underscores the unpredictable nature of both law and celebrity disputes, the case that once promised a prolonged legal showdown ended not with a judgment, but with reconciliation,closing the chapter on a controversy that had bridged screens and the courtroom.
