A 60-year-old man, Ajibola Faluyi, on Wednesday appeared before the Ijoko Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over alleged fraud involving N50 million.
Faluyi, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecutor, Cpl. A.S. Atinuke, told the court that the defendant and others still at large allegedly committed the offences at Ijako-Owode area in Ota.
Atinuke alleged that Faluyi fraudulently obtained N50 million from a developer, Mrs. Grace Nehemiah, under the guise of selling a parcel of land to her.
She further told the court that after receiving the money, the defendant allegedly failed to deliver on the agreement and instead converted the funds for personal use.
The prosecutor also accused Faluyi of engaging in conduct capable of breaching public peace by allegedly intimidating and harassing officials of Shafkamal Nigeria Limited as well as members of the Ogungbayi and Karounwi families.
According to her, the offences contravene Sections 86, 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
In his ruling, Magistrate A.O. Onagoruwa granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must show evidence of gainful employment and tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned till May 14 for further hearing.
