The Muslim community across South West Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of Princess (Alhaja) Rafatu Ademinure Awofisayo, the revered Iya Adinni of Ifeland, who passed away at the remarkable age of 102.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja,the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, led by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Executive Secretary, Prof. Wole Abbas, expressed gratitude to Allah for what it described as a long, purposeful, and impactful life devoted to faith and humanity.
Describing her passing as the end of a glorious era, MUSWEN noted that the centenarian was not only the last surviving child of the 48th Ooni of Ife, Alayeluwa Ademiluyi Ajagun, but also a towering figure in the Islamic community whose life embodied resilience, devotion, and selfless service.
Her role as Iya Adinni of Ifeland, the group emphasized, went beyond a ceremonial title, reflecting decades of unwavering commitment to the growth and propagation of Islam in Ile-Ife and the wider South West region.
Until her death, Princess Awofisayo served as Matron of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria at the Ife Central Mosque, where she was widely respected as a source of wisdom, guidance, and moral strength.
Her contributions to Islamic education and her efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence earned her admiration across religious and cultural divides.
MUSWEN further paid tribute to her as a bridge between royalty and religious devotion, whose life demonstrated how leadership rooted in faith can uplift communities.
Her passing, the group noted, is not only a loss to Ifeland but to the entire Nigerian Muslim Ummah.
The organisation extended heartfelt condolences to her family, the Ooni of Ife, the Muslim faithful in Ifeland, and the government and people of Osun State, praying that Almighty Allah grants her Al-Jannah Firdaus and comforts all those she left behind.
