Drivers, passengers, and other road users plying the Ganaja Junction,Ganaja Village route,a rapidly expanding satellite town on the outskirts of Lokoja, Kogi State,have heaved a collective sigh of relief following the completion of the 10-kilometre road.
Our correspondent reports that the federal government began rehabilitating the road in November 2021 to ease the perennial traffic congestion faced by thousands of passengers journeying from northern Nigeria to the country’s eastern corridor ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities that year.
However, the rehabilitation fell short of its original timeline, stretching over four years due to a combination of challenges, including contractors who collected mobilization fees but failed to honor their commitment to complete the project on schedule, among other setbacks.
Residents of Ganaja village who spoke with the correspondent of The Reporters, expressed joy that the road can now be described as motorable after the bitter experience they went through plying for four years.
Residents of Ganaja Village, speaking with The Reporters, on the issue,expressed immense joy that the road is now fully motorable, ending the bitter ordeal they endured while navigating the route for the past four years.
Mal.Abdullahi Mohammed, said,”The greatest dividends of democracy we can say we enjoy so far from the federal government is the completion of the rehabilitation of this road.
“We went through bitter experience while plying the road when it was in a mess condition but thank God,we can now sigh a relief that after all,the fear of Ganaja village cut from the rest of the world due to the deplorable nature of the road is over.
Mal. Abdullahi Mohammed said, “One of the greatest dividends of democracy we have enjoyed from the federal government is the completion of this road rehabilitation.
“We endured a bitter experience navigating the road when it was in a deplorable state, but thank God, we can now breathe a sigh of relief.
“The fear of Ganaja Village being cut off from the rest of the world, due to the road’s deplorable condition then,is finally over.”
Mr. Samuel Ademola, a tricycle operator who said he abandoned the route for more than a year because of the road’s rough state and the frequent damage to his keke napep, expressed immense satisfaction with the rehabilitation.
“Two years ago, I was constantly at the mechanic because of this road. Now, it is smooth and motorable, and I can ply it without the usual hassles,” he said.
He appealed to the federal government to commence the rehabilitation of the remaining part of the road from Ganaja village to Ajaokuta, especially from the axis that bothers from the bridge outskirts of the village before getting to Wada estate, describing the axis as another sad reminder of what drives and passengers passed through from Ganaja junction to Ganaja village in 2025.
He urged the federal government to extend the rehabilitation to the remaining stretch of the road from Ganaja Village to Ajaokuta, particularly the section from the bridge on the village outskirts to Wada Estate, describing it as a painful reminder of the hardships drivers and passengers endured along the Ganaja Junction–Ganaja Village route in 2025.
Our correspondent further reports that,except very parts of the road that need patching,the facility is generally believed to be motorable now.
