A new radio station, Highland FM 98.9, has officially commenced broadcast in Okene, Kogi State, with its proprietor, Onotu
Abdulmalik, urging media owners and practitioners across the country to uphold responsible and unifying content in the interest of peace and national cohesion.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Saturday, Abdulmalik stressed that the media’s influence on society, whether through radio, television, newspapers, or magazines, remains powerful, regardless of how subtle the message may seem.

“Whatever we broadcast on radio, television, or publish in newspapers and magazines has an impact on our audiences and society, no matter how minute,” he said.

“We must be careful. We should focus on content that unites our communities and assures them that our current security challenges are not insurmountable. We must not worsen the situation by spreading falsehood capable of creating fear.”

Abdulmalik explained that the establishment of Highland FM was motivated by a desire to promote peace, unity, and development in Kogi State, as well as to create job opportunities for the teeming youth.

“I believe we all must come together and do whatever we legitimately can to develop our state. If we don’t do it, nobody will do it for us. “Keeping our youths positively engaged is key to fostering peace and progress in our communities and Nigeria as a whole,”he said

The Ohi of Adavi, Alhaji Muhammed Bello, supported by members of the traditional council, inaugurated the station.

He commended the proprietor for contributing to the growth, peace, and development of Egbiraland and Kogi State.

With the launch of Highland FM, Kogi Central Senatorial District now hosts four radio stations, the others being Radio Kogi booster station,Tao Radio and Jatto FM.
