Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), has condemned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his reported verbal attack on a uniformed military officer, describing the act as a serious affront to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the office of the President.
Buratai, in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, urged Wike to tender an unreserved apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Army, and the soldier who allegedly prevented him from entering a restricted area.
The former Army Chief described Wike’s alleged outburst as “a direct threat to national security and the integrity of Nigeria’s institutions,” warning that such behavior undermines military discipline and the chain of command.
“Insulting a uniformed soldier in public is a serious act of indiscipline that weakens the authority of the Commander-in-Chief and dampens the morale of our security personnel,” Buratai said.
He emphasized that the matter should not be treated as a political issue but as a violation of national order and respect for the Armed Forces.
Buratai maintained that Nigeria’s military institutions must be safeguarded from any form of public ridicule, stressing that “the honour and discipline of our Armed Forces must be protected above all else.”
