By Correspondent in Lokoja.

It was a day drenched in tears and grief as the remains of Dr. Oluwakemi Mercy Emmanuel-Olowonubi, a beloved lecturer at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), were laid to rest at her residence in Lokoja on Friday .

Our correspondent reports that the atmosphere was heavy with sorrow as friends, colleagues, students, and community members gathered to pay their last respects to a woman whose life touched countless hearts.

Our correspondent recalls that Dr. Kemi, as she was fondly called, met her death in a ghastly trailer accident along the Crusher-Felele road on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, a tragedy that left the entire FUL community shattered.

Her passing, many said, was not just a personal loss but a collective heartbreak for the University, her family and all who knew her.

Mourners wept openly as her coffin was lowered into the earth, the echoes of grief mixing with solemn prayers and heartfelt tributes.

Students spoke of her warmth, mentorship, and motherly care; colleagues described her as “a rare gem, full of passion, humility, and dedication to duty.”

Leading the University Management to the sombre farewell, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, eulogized the late Deputy Dean of Students as “a shining light whose sudden departure has dimmed the spirit of the entire institution.”

He described her as one who gave her all to nurture young minds and uplift others through her selfless service.

As the final handfuls of sand fell on her grave, sobs broke out anew. It was not just the end of a life but the silencing of a voice that had inspired hope, laughter, and excellence.

In death, as in life, Dr. Kemi Mercy Emmanuel-Olowonubi left behind a legacy of compassion, brilliance, and love one that will forever echo through the corridors of the Federal University Lokoja.

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
