The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has upgraded its printing facilities to produce up to 15,000 driver’s licences daily, as part of measures to clear all pending applications before mid-November and improve service delivery nationwide.
The Corps Marshal, Mr. Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this on Monday in Lokoja during a news conference to flag off the 2025 Ember Months Campaign, themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.”
Represented by the Kogi State Sector Commander, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, Mohammed said the Corps has also strengthened partnerships and capacity-building engagements with fleet operators and driving schools to improve driver training and promote safer road practices.
He expressed concern over the increasing rate of road crashes across the country, which he blamed on drivers’ negligence and disregard for traffic regulations.
“This year’s theme was carefully chosen to address common traffic offences such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, non-use of seat belts, and road rage,factors that account for most of the previous crash records,” he stated.
The Corps Marshal further revealed plans by the FRSC to commence contactless biometric capture and on-the-spot licence printing, a move that will eliminate the need for temporary driver’s licences and enhance efficiency.
Mohammed commended the Federal Government for its sustained support to the Corps, which he said has significantly boosted its operational capacity to reduce crashes and ensure safer road use during and beyond the Ember Months.
