The Kogi State Government has been urged to upgrade Lugard TV, which currently operates from the Government House in Lokoja, into a full-fledged state-owned television station to ensure wider coverage and improved signal reception.
Mr. Kola Adeyemi, a member of the Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, made the call on Tuesday while speaking at the station’s studios as part of the activities marking the first anniversary of the TV.
He commended the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Malam Ismaila Isah, for his role in establishment and running of the TV outfit, noting that Lugard TV has become a force to be reckoned with in the nation’s media industry, particularly for its coverage showcasing the activities of the state government.
Adeyemi, however, stressed the need for the authorities in government to consider upgrading the station’s status to enable it reach a wider audience and promote the positive developments taking place under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
He also praised the station’s staff, describing them as hardworking, and urged them to continue acquiring new skills for improved productivity.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Federated’s Chapel, Mr. Mike Abu, lauded the capacity and competence of the Special Adviser in steering the ship of the TV and its personnel to greater heights and pledged the support of his chapel for the continued success and progress of Lugard TV.
In his remarks, the Publisher of The Reporters, Alhaji D.U. Ahmed, commended the Special Adviser and the staff, expressing amazement at the transformation of the area housing the TV as well as marvelous development in the TV operations.
He prayed God to grant the special adviser and the staff good health and wisdom to enable them manage the TV to enviable heights.
The Chairman of the NUJ in the state, Alhaji Saidu Adamu, represented by his Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Obansa, echoed the positive sentiments of other speakers at the occasion and commended the management and staff of the TV for the good job.
Earlier, while welcoming members of the chapel to the event, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor thanked them for their cooperation with his office and urged them to sustain the cordial relationship.
