The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, describing his death as a profound loss to Ibadanland, Oyo State, Yorubaland, and the entire nation.
Our correspondent reports that Oba Olakulehin passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, aged 90.
In a condolence message jointly signed by MUSWEN President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Executive Secretary/CEO, Professor Muslih Tayo Yahya, the body mourned the monarch’s demise and paid tribute to his legacy.
“The death of Oba Olakulehin is a profound loss to the Muslim community, the traditional institution, Yorubaland, and the entire nation,” the statement read.
MUSWEN praised the late monarch’s reign, noting that although brief, it was marked by a strong commitment to peace, unity, and the preservation of Ibadan’s cultural heritage.
“As a revered monarch, he exemplified wisdom, humility, and dedication to the service of his people.His leadership fostered harmony and strengthened collaboration between traditional and governmental institutions,”MUSWEN stated.
The organization extended heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the royal family, the Oyo State Council of Traditional Rulers, the government and people of Oyo State, and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland.
MUSWEN assured the people of Ibadan of its solidarity during this period of grief and prayed for divine guidance in the selection of a worthy successor to continue the Olubadan’s legacy.
