The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission,KOSIEC, has announced that political campaigns for the October 17, 2026 Local Government Elections in Kogi State will officially commence on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The announcement is contained in a public notice issued in Lokoja by the Chairman of the Commission, Mamman Nda Eri, who said the commencement date is in line with the electoral timetable and schedule of activities earlier released by the Commission for the conduct of the council polls across the state.
The KOSIEC boss directed all registered political parties and their candidates to strictly comply with the approved campaign guidelines and provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 throughout the electioneering period.
The Commission stressed that campaigns must remain peaceful, issue-based and free from violence, hate speech, intimidation and all forms of electoral malpractice capable of threatening the peace and stability of the state.
According to the notice, political parties are expected to respect public order and security regulations while avoiding inflammatory comments and actions that could trigger unrest before, during and after the elections.
KOSIEC also reminded political actors to comply with campaign finance regulations and reporting requirements, warning that campaign activities must not obstruct public infrastructure or violate environmental and sanitation laws in any part of the state.
The electoral body disclosed that security agencies and other critical stakeholders had been engaged to monitor compliance with electoral guidelines and ensure a level playing field for all participating political parties and candidates.
Reaffirming its commitment to a transparent democratic process, the Commission assured residents of its readiness to conduct free, fair and credible local government elections across the 21 local government areas of the state.
KOSIEC called on politicians, party supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves responsibly and contribute positively to sustaining peace and democratic values in Kogi State as political activities gather momentum ahead of the October council polls.
