The Kogi State Police Command has urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers as they begin the nationwide enforcement of mandatory third-party vehicle insurance, which officially takes effect on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP William Ovie Aya, Commissioner of Police (CP) Miller G. Dantawaye emphasized the importance of strict adherence to this new policy, ordered by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbekotikun.
CP Dantawaye appealed to all vehicle owners and road users to ensure they have valid third-party insurance to avoid legal consequences. He explained that failure to comply with the enforcement would result in penalties.
The Commissioner also reassured the public that police officers would conduct the enforcement with professionalism and in line with standard procedures. He called on all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers to ensure the full implementation of the directive.
The goal of the new regulation, according to CP Dantawaye, is to promote road safety and protect both motorists and other road users by ensuring that all vehicles are adequately insured.
