Salem University, Lokoja, Kogi State,has recognized five distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions to society during its 6th Convocation Ceremony.
Among the honorees are: Mr. Thompson Yamput, an editor with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), and Mr. James Onoja, a philanthropist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Our correspondent reports that Yamput is also the correspondent of NAN in charge of Kogi State.
The awards were presented on Thursday at the Convocation Arena in Lokoja, where the ceremony featured a public lecture delivered by Prof. Sam Egwu.
Other award recipients include; Mr. Jeremiah Ocheme of African Independent Television (AIT), Mr. Moses Ebute, and Ambassador Yemi Matthew, a pastor and programmer.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Alewo Johnson-Akubo, praised the awardees for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the university and the nation at large.
Speaking on behalf of the honorees, Mr. Onoja expressed gratitude to Salem University and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting its continued progress.
Prof. Sam Egwu, in his lecture, highlighted the need to prioritize citizenship and national unity in tertiary education.
He emphasized that a better understanding of citizenship is essential to overcoming challenges in Nigeria’s democratic development.
Egwu proposed educational reforms aimed at fostering active citizens who can strengthen democratic governance and national growth.
Our correspondent reports that the official 6th Convocation ceremony of the university was on Friday at the university’s Convocation Arena,as at the time of this report.
