A fatal auto crash that occurred at about 1610 hrs of new year, few metres before GOFAMAINT on Lagos-Ibadan expressway has killed seven passengers and injured 17 others.
Superintendent Route Commander Florence Okpe, FRSC Public Education Officer for Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector Command, disclosed this on Sunday in Abeokuta in a statement she signed and made available a copy to The Reporters.
According to her, 25 persons were involved which in the accident comprising 17 male adults and 08 female adults.
She said:” A total of 16 persons sustained various digress of injury (10 male adults and 06 female adults) while 07 persons were recorded death from the crash ( 06 male adult and 01 female adult) and 02 others unhurt.
“Two vehicles were involved with registration numbers AKD693XW, a Toyota Haice bus and GZA215XA a Mack tanker”.
The suspected cause of the fatal crash is excessive speed on the part of the Toyota bus driver who lost control and rammed into the moving truck from behind as a result of speed.
“The injured were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS MORGUE, IPARA.
Okpe qouted the Sector Commander, FRSC Ogun, CC AHMED UMAR as advising motorists to shun speed, reminding them that “speed kills faster than anything one can think of.”
“He also emphasized on tired driving which is as dangerous as drunk driving and that drivers should exercise 15 to 30 minutes rest after 4 hours journey.
“The Sector Commander sympathizes with the family of the victims and advised them to contact FRSC, ogunmakin, for more information about the crash,” she added.
