Major accident averted in Ogun,TRACE warns drivers against speeding,dangerous drivering

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), has advised articulated vehicle drivers to desist from speeding and dangerous driving to stem road crashes.

Mrs Temitope Oseni, the Owode-Ijako Unit Commander of TRACE, gave the warning while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun.

Oseni spoke while reacting to an articulated vehicle, loaded with 33,000 Litres of Pemium Motor Spirit (PMS), that capsized around Lepa on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway at about 5:00 a. m.on Sunday but noted that it was, however, averted.

Oseni explained that the said articulated vehicle, with no registration number, was heading to Abeakuta when it lost control, due to speeding and capsized, adding that the content of the vehicle spilled on the expressway, but that nno life was lost.

“We are appealing to people to always desist from scooping petrol when such an accident occurs, to avoid mishaps and loss of lives,” she said.

“In addition, we urge motorists to cooperate with TRACE personnel and other sister agencies like the FRSC and the police, to ease the free flow of traffic in the area,” she said.

Oseni said that Fire Service personnel from Ogun were also on ground to prevent any regrettable incident.

She added that transloading was currently going on so that the articulated vehicles could be removed from the expressway.

Oseni advised articulated vehicle owners and fleet operators to always ensure that their vehicles were in good mechanical condition before putting them on the highway as well as implored them to install safety valve on their vehicles to prevent their contents from spilling on the roads.

Oseni further advised them to install speed limit devices and adhere strictly to stipulated speed limit to avoid accident on the highway.
