Bello assents to bills establishing Agency for Vehicle Administration, Agency for Traffic Management

The Governor of Niger state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has assented to the bill establishing the Agency for Vehicle Administration as well as an Agency for Traffic Management.

At a brief event which took place in the Government House Minna, the Governor said the Motor Vehicle Agency had as part of its responsibilities; registering Motor Vehicles, issuance and renewing Motor Vehicle Licenses as well issue Road Worthiness Certificates among others.

The Governor, who however,did not give insight into areas of clash interest and duplication of functions between the new agency and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), said setting up the agency became necessary to bridge road traffic gaps in the state.

“Traffic Management Agency is to ensure general superintendence and management of Roads and Waterways Traffic matters, deter and apprehend road traffic and waterways offenders as well as establish and maintain traffic information and control center”.

Sani Bello described the two bills as epochal with far-reaching implications on the present security situation in the state, pointing out that his administration was approaching the numerous challenges facing the state holistically.

The agencies,when fully operational, will ensure safe transportation for citizens across the state, create jobs for the uneployed youths and as well improve the Internally Generated Rrevenue (IGR) of the state, our Correspondent gathered.

Governor sani Bello assured that the two agencies, whose activities will cover the entire state, would be provided with the enabling environment and necessary logistics such as vehicles and digitalized equipments to support their operations.

The Governor, who applauded Niger State House of Assembly for the timely passage of the Bills, however, reiterated his administration’s resolve toward genuine partnership with the legislature for the betterment of the state.
