Former Minister of Information Prof. Jerry Gana has expressed worry over poor welfare of Nigerians and insecurity of life and property in the country.
Prof.Gana expressed his view at the Cathedral Church Headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi state, during the burial of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sauki Private Hospital Abuja, Dr Godwin Timothy Ajakpo, who answered the call of God few weeks ago in Abuja.
The former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2019 presidential election said Nigerians were not happy over their present welfare and insecurity in the country.
He stressed the need for the present administration in the country to do something urgently by providing viable solution to the social and economic challenges confronting the country.
According to him, constitution of the country clearly states that the security and the welfare of the people is the primary responsibility of the government, adding that Nigerians should enjoy such constitutional provision.
“The constitution of the country says the security and the welfare of the people is the primary responsibility of the government, even if a government is governs excellently and there is no welfare and security of the people, such government has failed.
“The nation is right now passing through a turbulent time,but by the grace of God, this new year will usher in good things as Nigeria will be renewed.
“I am urging the people not to give up, but they should trust in God Almighty who will turn things around for this nation in 2021” he said.
On the deceased, the former minister described him as a man of integrity committed to his family, his community and the nation at large and advised his immediate family not be deterred by the death of their father,adding that God will protect and secure them.
Earlier in his sermon, the Primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, the Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, called on the family of the late Ajakpo to follow the legacy of their father who, he noted, gave his entire life to God.
“Dr Godwin Timothy Ajakpo served the church meritoriously and he used his knowledge of medicine to assist many people that are not even his relations.
The cleric, who prayed for the reposed soul of Ajakpo, for him to have eternal life, urged Christians to always bear in mind that one day, death would visit every one, adding that they should be closer to God through fervent prayers and shun devilish acts capable of leading people to heal fire.
