The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Power, the owners of Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project with National power Training Institute of Nigeria are arranging a training targeting the Nigerian Youth under the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project Local Content Youth Empowerment and skills Acquisition Programme

The Mambilla hydropower project is a 3.05GW hydroelectric infrastructure being developed on the Dongo River near Baruf, in Kakara Village of Taraba State, Nigeria. The project is being undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Power and private investors. When fully operational the project will be the country’s biggest power plant, producing approximately 4.7 billion kWh of electricity a year.

The project is estimated to cost $5.8bn and will generate up to 50,000 local jobs during the construction phase. The Project Development Committee’s local content thematic group in conjunction with Federal Ministry of Power and the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) has the vision and strategic plan to empower about 20,000 youths (age 18-35) across the country to take advantage of the opportunities the project presents through requisite skills acquisition training.

The National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) was established in 2009 as an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), operating under the aegis of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (FMP).

The Institute has the mandate for human capital development, coordinating top notch trainings and conducting research & development activities in the global energy environment. NAPTIN is an intellectual and innovative hub in the world of energy technology with its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja and operates eight (8) Regional Training Centres around the country.

MAMBILA HYDROELECTRIC POWER PROJECT LOCAL CONTENT YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AND SKILLS ACQUISITION TRAINING PROGRAMME

The trainings are designed to provide a platform to educate individuals on skills that can help create wealth, taking into cognisance the broad policy framework of the Federal Government of Nigeria to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030.

Participants will be trained to foster better-informed skill acquisition and produce more creative opportunities that will be relevant to the MHEPP development phase and after hence, the skills acquisition and empowerment trainings are built on active, experimental and practical learning sessions designed to equip the Nigerian youth of with requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes in some basic power competencies to make them employable and or self-dependant. The training will focus on:

Electrical House Wiring

ICT Essentials

Plumbing and Pipefitting for Plants & Buildings

Catering Management

Masonry and Bricklaying

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admissions are open to all holders of WAEC/SSCE/NECO/OND/NCE and equivalent qualifications as mentioned in the above skills for admission into the Mambila Hydroelectric Power Project Local Content Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Training Programme.

COURSE DURATION

The programme will take 4 weeks (hands-on training) to empower participants with knowledge and skills required for entrepreneurship.
