Residents of Eyenkorin, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday night went on rampage after an alleged vigilante officer, identified as Sule allegedly shot dead, a commercial bus driver, known as Idowu while returning from a trip in Ibadan.
Duaglobalnews gathered that Sule and his colleagues were said to have stopped the driver at Eyenkorin,demanding to be paid N5,000 but the driver resisted.
The development led to an argument as report has it that that the alleged vigilante reportedly shot ldowu in the chest.
Sule was said to have taken to his heels with his family after allegedly committing the crime.
Report has it that the the remains of the deceased has since been deposited at the General Hospital, Ilorin morgue after a complaint was lodged with the police by the family of the deceased.
Family sources said Idowu had earlier survived three ghastly motor accidents, adding that he was survived by his three months old son, wife and an aged mother.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has clarified an insinuation going around that a state vigilante officer was responsible for the death of the commercial driver simply identified as Idowu.
He said the alleged killer was a local hunter named Sule, engaged by the community and not vigilante.
Giving the clarification, the Chief Press Secretary to Kwara State Governor, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, said the ugly incident had nothing to do with the vigilantes the state government was working with.
He said the driver apparently drove through forest routes, where he had the unfortunate encounter with the hunter, engaged by Eyekorin community, adding that the community association that engaged the hunter had been invited by the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Police Command in the state,Ajayi Okasanmi on Wednesday afternoon, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.
Okasanmi said attempt by the deceased’s colleagues to create mayhem over the death of Idowu was resisted by the police.
He said the late driver, who sneaked into the town through bush path, engaged local hunters in an argument which led to him being shot.
The police image maker added that the Commissioner of Police in the state had directed the the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take up the the matter.
