Residents of Lokoja and its environs in Kogi state have expressed delight over the launch of “Iron City Radio Tao FM 101.9”, a development widely seen as a boost to the state’s expanding media landscape.
The new radio station is located in Otokiti in Adavi LGA opposite maigomeri Army barracks axis of Lokoja
The Reporters gathered that the acquired radio station, which had existed near Okene, joins existing broadcasters such as Radio Kogi and Radio Nigeria (Prime FM), to further widen access to information, education, and entertainment for residents, particularly in suburban and semi-urban communities.

Speaking with The Reporters, Mr. Albert Achimugu, who confirmed clear reception in Zango, Adavi Local Government Area, described the development as a significant step forward for information dissemination in the state.
“With more broadcasting outlets, people now have better access to diverse and timely information. This will strengthen communication between the government and the people, promote transparency, and encourage informed decision-making,” he said.
Another resident, Alhaji Yahaya Faruk of Gadumo, noted that the entry of Tao FM would deepen media plurality and foster healthy competition among broadcasters.
“With an additional station on air, media organisations will be pushed to improve content quality, professionalism, and innovation to retain audience interest,” he said.
Faruk added that increased competition could also lead to more balanced reporting and richer programming, giving voice to a broader range of perspectives within the public space.
Some residents also highlighted the economic benefits of the new station, noting that it is expected to create employment opportunities for journalists, presenters, engineers, technicians, and marketers, while providing businesses with more platforms to advertise their products and services.
They added that the station would stimulate local economic activities and strengthen grassroots development through enhanced community engagement and cultural promotion.
Observers note that radio remains one of the most accessible and affordable means of communication, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
The addition of Tao FM is therefore expected to deepen cultural expression, promote indigenous languages, and foster social cohesion among residents.
In a telephone interview, the station’s owner, Edward Jatto, said the initiative was driven by a desire to strengthen broadcasting in Kogi State.
He disclosed that early feedback indicates that the station’s signal is being received across several parts of the state.
Jatto assured listeners of quality programming that would contribute to the socio-economic and political development of Kogi State.
