Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Faithia Williams Balogun, has officially announced her return to work following a deeply emotional period marked by the loss of her mother, as she prepares to promote her debut cinema project as a producer, EFUNROYE — The Unicorn.
In a heartfelt message on her Facebook page to fans and supporters, the celebrated screen star revealed that the historical film holds a special place in her heart, describing it as a powerful story she is eager to share with audiences across the world.
Williams Balogun disclosed that the past few weeks have been profoundly challenging for her family as they mourned the passing of their matriarch, who has now been laid to rest.
She expressed sincere gratitude to fans, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for the outpouring of love, prayers, calls, and messages that sustained them through the difficult time.
While the family has conducted a peaceful burial, the actress noted that a larger celebration of her mother’s life and legacy has been postponed until next year, when they plan to honour the remarkable woman and her lasting impact more elaborately.
Drawing strength from her grief, the award-winning performer said she is channeling her energy back into her craft, beginning with the promotion of EFUNROYE — The Unicorn, a project she describes as both beautiful and deeply meaningful.
She also announced openness to collaborations, partnerships, and public engagements as she embarks on the promotional journey for the film, signaling a full return to the creative space that has defined her decades-long career.
Williams Balogun by once again thanked supporters for their patience and unwavering loyalty, emphasizing how much their kindness has meant during one of the most difficult chapters of her life.

Faithia Balogun Williams’ new production; Efunroye – The Unicorn portrays the life and influence of Efunroye Tinubu, a prominent 19th century Yoruba merchant and powerbroker who played a major role in Lagos politics and commerce.
The Film follows the rise of a young girl born near Abeokuta who learns the tradecraft of her mother and grandmother, grows into a resourceful, formidable Yoruba woman and merchant, and builds power through trade, politics, and alliances.
The movie will tell the core story of Efunroye’s journey from market seller to influential kingmaker. The film, set in pre-colonial and early colonial Yoruba lands celebrate not only the history of the Yoruba people but also the legacy and recognition of women in leadership.
The lead character of Efunroye Tinubu is portrayed by Faithia Williams, who is also doubles as a film producer.
A few supporting casts shown in promotional materials include Mercy Aigbe, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Yekini, Saidi Balogun, Taiwo Hassan, Ibrahim Chatta, Layi Wasabi, Eniola Ajao, Femi Branch, and Femi Adebayo, among others.
The movie trailer suggests a mix of Yoruba film veterans and rising stars.
