Many bank customers in Lokoja and other local government areas of the state have urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide sufficient cash to banks to meet their demands.

They made the appeal during separate interviews with The Reporters correspondent at various bank premises visited in Lokoja on Monday.

Mrs. Nkechi George, a foodstuff trader at the International Market in Lokoja, told our correspondent that out of the N100,000 she planned to withdraw for her business, she could only withdraw N10,000.

“The only explanation I received for my disappointment was that there isn’t enough money in the banks for customers. This situation has negatively affected my business,” she lamented.

Bank customers, including civil servants, large-scale traders, recreational service operators, students, journalists, retirees, and other members of society who came to withdraw money to meet their needs, told The Reporters they were unable to achieve their goal.

Banks in the state capital our correspondent visited disabled their ATMs, leaving customers unable to access cash and causing widespread inconvenience.

A Point of Sale (POS), operator, simply known as Habibat told our correspondent that she and her could not withdraw beyond N20,000 per day.

“This is not good for our business as we don’t have enough cash to pay our customers and make a profit,” she said.

Our correspondent also reports that bank customers who opted for POS services complained about operators charging 100% in fees for their services, citing order from above.

Other bank customers, who also lamented the situation, urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to find a timely solution to the problem before Christmas and New Year celebrations.
