In recent years, there has been a global push for “patient-centered care” in healthcare institutions, urging medical professionals to actively listen to patients. This approach aims to foster a more compassionate and effective healthcare experience.

In Nigeria, where healthcare systems often struggle with high patient-to-doctor ratios, health experts agree that prioritizing open communication with patients is especially crucial.

A key aspect of patient-centered care is meaningful dialogue. Health analysts emphasize that effective physicians do more than simply deliver treatments; they begin by understanding each patient’s needs, fears, lifestyle, and preferences.
