The Niger State government says it is expediting work on the Minna-Bida road, aiming to alleviate transportation challenges faced by rural communities in bringing food products to urban centers. This project is part of a larger initiative to enhance socio-economic well-being and curb rural-to-urban migration.
A key focus of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s administration is to provide essential infrastructure, including roads, to encourage youth engagement in modern agriculture rather than relying on limited government jobs.
The Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, stated this while discussing ongoing projects across the state.
According to him, the central element of the “New Niger Agenda” is the upgrade and dualization of the 82-kilometer Minna-Kataeregi-Bida road, which includes new drainage structures and bridges to improve connectivity.
The project, divided into three segments, is funded by the Niger State Government, Islamic Development Bank, and Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, with contractors actively working on site,he further disclosed.
Enhancements to the road project include pedestrian bridges, toll gates, and interchanges in Minna and Bida, which will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities, according to the governor ‘s aide.
Ebbo emphasized that the infrastructure overhaul is aimed to boost economic productivity and foster stronger inter-community links across the state.
