The Bishop of Kontagora (Catholic Diocese), Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has donated cash and assorted food items, worth hundreds of thousands of naira to the less privileged parishioners in neighbouring Kebbi and Niger state respectively.
The food items, simultaneously shared to the 1, 435 beneficiaries in the two states include; rice, maize, noodles, biscuits, seasonings and different brands of beverages is parts of the Catholic Bishop’s gift of love and celebration of the Christmas and new Year.
In an interview with journalists, Bishop Yohanna, who is the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) chairman for Niger state, said the event was his own way of celebrating the yuletide annually specifically targeted at widows, widowers, orphans and those who cannot afford at least a meal per day.
He said:“This is my own way of celebrating the Christmas and the New Year, and this is primarily geared towards improving the living conditions of the widows, the orphans, the poor and the less privileged ones”.Â

“The last time we were able to reach out to a little above 1, 000 beneficiaries. So far, for this time around, we are reaching out to 1, 435 beneficiaries in both Kontagora Dioceses, both parishes in Niger and Kebbi states respectively”.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Godiya Adamu, in an interview, expressed appreciation to CAN state Chairman for reaching out to them,especially with the harsh economic realities which has made it almost impossible for average family to survive.
Godiya, who told our correspondent that she and her family members had been surviving the hard times through the mercy of God,said, “The gesture, remembering poor woman like me can only be from God”.
