Ember months: TRACE cautions motorists against unnecessary overtaking .

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) management have advised motorists against dangerous driving and overtaking from the right side of the road to minimise mishaps during the ember months.
The new Ijoko Unit Commander of TRACE, Mrs Temitope Oseni, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.
She said that the advice became necessary, adding the agency did not want to record any mishap during the ember months.
“We don’t want mishaps or road crashes during these ember months. So people should desist from any act that can endanger their lives and those of other road users.
“In addition, motorists should properly check their vehicle parts, such as wipers, side mirrors, tyres and lighting system, among others, before embarking on any journey.
“They should also desist from engaging in drunk-driving and use of cell phones to stem mishaps during this season,” she said.
Oseni stressed the need for more public enlightenment to awaken the consciousness of the public in order to prevent avoidable tragedies during the yuletide.
She said that her agency had visited many motor parks, such as Agba-Ayo and Ijoko, to educate commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists on the need to refrain from excessive speeding.
The TRACE unit commander warned commercial bus drivers, motorcyclists and tricyclists against picking or disembarking passengers at non-designated places to prevent incoming vehicles ramming into them.
Oseni also implored motorists against overtaking from the right side of the road to avoid unnecessary loss of life. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
