Kwara govt offers 50% transport fare for students returning home

The Kwara State Government has declared “50 per cent transport support” to Kwara students in tertiary Institutions across the Country.

This follows the directive of the federal Government through the Nigeria Universities Commission to close Nigerian Universities for a duration of 3 weeks between February 22nd and March 14th March, 2023.

Press Secretary of the ministry, disclosed this in a statement she signed and made available to The Reporters on Monday.

She qouted the Commissioner for Tertiary Education Dr Alabi Afees Abolore, as making this known in a statement over the weekend, saying that the support would be monetised and transferred to the beneficiaries after verifications.

He said:” It is interesting to note that this 50% transport support for students returning home is coming barely 12 hours after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq -led Administration announced free bus palliative for students of Unilorin and Kwara State Polytechnic which begins today Monday, 13th February, 2014.

Dr. Abolore also disclosed that the directive of the university’s closure came in order to allow Nigerian Students of Voting Age to exercise their civic responsibility in the forthcoming General elections accross the country.

He appreciated the efforts the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led Administration for Considering Students welfare with utmost priority.

The Commissioner stated that the 50 percent subsidy was meant to augment transportation fares for students returning to Kwara State.

He recalled that the KWSG recently offered free transportation to students who are indigenes of the State going back to school after the last protracted ASUU strike.

According to him,other gestures from the state to the students include 100 per cent increment in Bursary allowances, Scholarship for kwara indigenes in Nigerian Law Schools, as well as sponsorship of Kwara students Abroad in furtherance of their academic pursuit, among others.
