Operatives of the Kogi State Police Command have intercepted a vehicle loaded with a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp in Kabba, arresting two suspects in a major operation against illicit drug trafficking in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO, for the police command in the state,ASP. Oyiza Afusat Saliu in Lokoja on Sunday.
She further disclosed that the suspects were apprehended on May 9, 2026, during a routine patrol by a tactical police team along the Kabba axis.
According to the police, the operatives stopped a Honda Pilot vehicle at a strategic checkpoint and discovered about 342 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, carefully concealed inside the vehicle.
In a dramatic twist, the suspects allegedly attempted to derail the operation by offering the officers a ₦5 million bribe to secure their freedom and prevent the seizure of the exhibits.
However, the operatives reportedly rejected the offer, insisting on carrying out their lawful duties in line with professional ethics and operational guidelines.
The command said the vehicle and the suspected hard drugs were immediately secured and transferred to the Area Command Headquarters in Kabba for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance, courage and integrity, the Commissioner of Police, CP.Naziru Bello Kankarofi, reaffirmed the commitment of the command to sustaining the fight against crime and criminal networks across the state.
The police boss appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could help in tracking criminal elements and curbing the spread of illicit drugs and other related crimes in the state.
