Senator and former governorship candidate in Kogi state,Dino Melaye, has injected fresh momentum into the political landscape of Kogi West, donating ₦14 million to strengthen the membership drive of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of future electoral contests.

Melaye announced the contribution while hosting a high-level strategic caucus and leaders’ meeting of the party at his residence in Kabba, describing the ongoing registration and revalidation exercise as critical to building a formidable grassroots structure.

According to him, expanding the party’s base at the ward and local government levels would position the ADC as a credible force capable of reshaping political competition in the senatorial district and beyond.

“The membership drive is a crucial step toward strengthening our grassroots presence and preparing the party for future political contests,” Melaye said, urging stakeholders to mobilise supporters across communities.

Our correspondent gathered that the meeting drew a powerful lineup of party heavyweights and stakeholders from across Okun land and the wider Kogi West axis, signalling a coordinated push to consolidate the ADC’s foothold in the region.

Among those present were prominent political figures including Hon. Hassan Salawu, Engr. JK Odeyemi, Chief Joe Elebiyo, Chief Dayo Akande, Chief (Barr.) Gboyega Kolade, and Barr. Yemi Olumudi.

All five local government chairmen of the party in Okun land also attended, projecting a united front as the ADC intensifies efforts to expand its support base.

Melaye stressed that the funds would support membership registration, revalidation, and grassroots mobilisation activities across the district, with the goal of energising dormant structures and attracting new entrants into the party.

Political observers note that sustained financial backing is often decisive in grassroots organisation, particularly in regions where party loyalty can shift rapidly.

Political observers describe the latest donation by Dino as part of a long-term strategy to build a viable alternative political platform in Kogi state.

Stakeholders at the meeting praised the former lawmaker’s consistency and commitment, describing the financial boost as timely and capable of accelerating mobilisation efforts across wards and local governments.

They expressed confidence that the strengthened structures would translate into increased membership, deeper community engagement, and improved electoral competitiveness.

With the political temperature gradually rising ahead of future contests, Melaye’s intervention signals that the ADC is positioning itself to play a more assertive role in Kogi’s evolving power dynamics.
