The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State,CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has urged residents of the state to fully comply with the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks announced by the state government as part of intensified security measures.
Our correspondent recalls that the state government had on Sunday ordered the temporary shutdown of some markets and motor parks, particularly across the Kogi West Senatorial District, to support ongoing security operations aimed at curbing criminal activities in the area.
The measures are being implemented in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and other sister security agencies, according to the statement signed by the Commissioner For Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo.
Reacting to the development, CP Kankarofi called on residents, traders, and transport operators in the affected areas to strictly adhere to the directive for the duration of the security operations, noting that the action was taken in the collective interest of public safety.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oyiza Afusat Saliu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, explaining that the temporary shutdown affects selected markets and motor parks in parts of Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kogi, and Mopamuro Local Government Areas, as earlier announced by the state government.
The Commissioner of Police advised members of the public to plan their activities accordingly, assuring that the police would closely monitor compliance with the closure order across the affected locations.
According to him, the Command appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents in the affected communities and reassures the people of Kogi State of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.
He further urged citizens to remain law-abiding and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency control room numbers: 0703 832 9084 and 0815 219 5982.
CP Kankarofi reiterated that the the Police Command in the state remains committed to sustaining peace and security across the state and appealed for the continued cooperation of members of the public.
