The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has concluded plans to hold the third Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture on the 23rd of this month.
The annual lecture series was instituted to honour the late former Governor of Lagos State, outstanding journalist, and former NGE President, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.
A statement by the Guildâs President, Eze Anaba and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, says this yearâs lecture theme is âJournalism and the Challenge of Nation-Building in a Multi-Ethnic Societyâ.
According to the statement, the lecture will be delivered by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed at the Edmark DâPodium International Event Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, with Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as Chairman.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will be the Special Guest of Honor, while Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Mohammed Idris, will be the Guest of Honor.
“The Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture series aims to celebrate the former governorâs remarkable contributions to journalism, public service, and governance. Jakandeâs âlegacy serves as a model for future generations, and we are proud to continue this traditionâ, the statement explained.
The lecture series began in 2023 with a paper delivered by former Editor-in-Chief of the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc (publishers of the Tribune titles), Chief Felix Adenaike, who is a Fellow of the NGE.
The following year, the lecture was delivered by Chairman of This Day/Arise TV, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, with the theme, âRapidly Changing Media Landscape: Survival Strategiesâ.
“We look forward to another insightful discussion on the challenges and opportunities in nation-building through journalism”, the statement remarked.
