The Kogi State Government has commenced the training of no fewer than 2,310 youths in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion techniques, as part of efforts to combat unemployment and promote cleaner energy use.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Lokoja.
Fanwo said the initiative is a key component of the government’s strategy to empower young people across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, adding that the exercise is taking place at four designated centres located in Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba.
According to him,the programme, executed in partnership with Sufpay Ltd., aims to equip Kogi youths with practical, in-demand skills that support Nigeria’s broader transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.
“This programme is a bold and strategic move to position our state for the emerging energy revolution It aligns with national efforts to shift towards alternative fuels, reduce petrol dependence, and empower our youths through technical training,”Fanwo stated.
He said the initiative would not only strengthen the local economy but also serve as a non-kinetic strategy for addressing insecurity by productively engaging young people.
“We are building development around our youth because they are the greatest asset of our state,” he added.
Fanwo commended Sufpay Ltd. for its commitment and technical support, noting that the company’s expertise has been critical to advancing the initiative.
