Police Nab Lagos’ Most Wanted Serial Killer, Recover Cache of Weapons

The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested Wasiu Akinwande, described as a notorious serial killer and cult kingpin who has led a reign of terror in the Mushin area of Lagos for over a decade.

Akinwande, 44, also known as “Olori Eso,” was captured on June 20 during a covert operation codenamed Silence, Speed, and Surprise by the Command’s Tactical Squad.

He was apprehended at a hideout in the Agbado area of neighbouring Ogun State after multiple failed attempts by the police to track him down.

The Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, also described Akinwande as “the most wanted hired killer in recent Lagos history.”

“For over a decade, Akinwande and his gang have carried out countless murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, and cult-related killings, primarily in Mushin and surrounding areas. “His arrest marks a major breakthrough in our fight against violent crime in Lagos State,”Hundeyin said.

Police said the suspect’s crimes left a trail of horror and devastation across communities, with multiple high-profile murder cases now under investigation.

According to the police image maker,following suspect’s arrest, police raided his residence in Mushin and recovered a significant cache of weapons.

Items seized include;
Two AK-47 rifles,One K2 assault rifle,One Red Ryder rifle,Three pump-action rifles,Two locally made single-barrel pistols,Five magazines,57 live cartridges,70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition,
27 rounds of 9mm ammunition,
One expended 5.56mm shell,
One dagger,Three walkie-talkies and Nine international passports belonging to different individuals.

According to the statement, at least four families have already identified Akinwande as the man behind the killing of their children and relatives.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to lead a team of elite detectives in expanding the investigation and apprehending other members of Akinwande’s network.

“The suspect is currently in custody under heavy security and will face the full weight of the law. This operation is part of the Command’s ongoing commitment to rid Lagos of violent criminals,”Hundeyin added.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as investigations continue.
