NCC Ushers in New Era of Digital Healthcare with Commissioning of e-Health Project in Akure

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Thursday, commissioned a state-of-the-art e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, Ondo State, in what has been described as landmark moment for Nigeria’s healthcare and digital sectors.

The initiative, spearheaded by the NCC and unveiled by its Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, marks a significant step forward in the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the nation’s health system.

In his speech at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Maida hailed the project as a product of collective effort and vision, aimed at transforming healthcare delivery and promoting digital inclusivity in medical services across Nigeria.

“Today’s commissioning attests to our commitment to harnessing the power of ICT to revolutionise the health sector in a manner that better serves our citizens.

“We are hopeful that with its successful take-off, this project will further promote the Commission’s drive to speed up the adoption of ICT in the health sector.

” The implementation of e-health solutions will streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and facilitate the efficient management of health records.

“With the State Specialist Hospital in Akure now equipped with innovative technology that enables healthcare professionals to deliver timely and accurate diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care, we expect that these will improve patient satisfaction and positive health outcomes.

“This is because the benefits of this project go beyond the hospital walls to the larger community and set a precedent for other healthcare institutions nationwide.

He said that the e-Health project is designed to improve patient care, streamline medical processes, and ensure seamless management of health records,”he said.

According to the EVC,with digital tools now available at the State Specialist Hospital, doctors and other healthcare professionals will be able to deliver faster, more accurate diagnoses and treatments, thus improving patient satisfaction and health outcomes.

Dr. Maida emphasized the broader impact of the initiative, noting that the benefits will extend beyond hospital walls to the larger community.

“We are hopeful that with its successful take-off, this project will promote faster adoption of ICT in healthcare nationwide,” he said. He added that healthy citizens are essential to a thriving digital economy, and with e-health solutions, no region will be left behind.

The Executive Vice Chairman praised the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved, including government bodies and technology experts, whose dedication brought the project to fruition.

“This collaboration has created a model that can be replicated and scaled to other regions, ensuring that the advantages of ICT in healthcare are felt nationwide,” he affirmed.
