The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) says five out of 12 inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, following a daring prison break in the early hours of Monday have been recaptured.
NCoS spokesperson Abubakar Umar, in a statement issued on Monday on the development, revealed that a manhunt has been launched to track down the fleeing prisoners.
Our correspondent recalls that, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, had disclosed that 12 inmates escaped during the incident.
Reacting swiftly to the security breach, the Acting Controller-General of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, mobilized security personnel in collaboration with sister security agencies and top government officials, including the Senior Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor.
“Security forces were deployed to restore order, reinforce security at the facility, and track down the escapees,” the statement read.
As the search intensifies, Fanwo urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to law enforcement agencies.
