The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has set a new revenue milestone, generating an impressive N1.046 trillion from January to October 2024.
This achievement marks the first time in the command’s 40-year history that it has crossed the trillion-naira mark.
The command Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, made the disclosure in Lagos on Thursday.
He said that apart from the revenue milestone, the command intercepted 16 containers of illicit drugs, including dangerous substances like codeine syrup, tramadol, cannabis, and other unregistered pharmaceuticals.
According to him,the contraband was seized between May 17 and October 23, with the containers originating from countries like India, Canada, and the UK.
Comptroller Dera Nnadi praised the support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for the command’s success.
He stressed the critical role of secure borders in generating additional revenue while also ensuring public safety.
Nnadi further revealed plans to hand over 13 additional containers of illicit drugs to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), with a total Duty Paid Value of N37 billion.
The interception efforts are part of ongoing interagency collaboration between Customs, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and NAFDAC, all committed to tackling drug smuggling and improving regulatory controls,he said.
