The Police Command in Kogi state has issued a stern warning against the use of vehicles with covered number plates and unregistered motorcycles and vehicles across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP.Bethrand C. Onuoha, made the announcement in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP.Williams Ovie Aya in Lokoja on Tuesday and made available a copy to The Reporters.
The police commissioner emphasized that the decision was driven by security concerns and intelligence linking such practices to criminal activities.
The CP expressed concern about the growing trend of drivers concealing their number plates or failing to register their vehicles, noting the development has not only led to a rise in criminality but also hampered the ability of law enforcement agencies to combat crime effectively.
He said the order is aimed to restore order, improve public safety, and eliminate lawlessness in the state.
The police boss urged vehicle owners to comply immediately, warning that the police would soon begin impounding non-compliant vehicles and prosecuting offenders.
CP Onuoha reminded the public that it is illegal to cover number plates or operate vehicles without proper registration.
He called on all residents to cooperate with this directive to avoid legal consequences, including vehicle impoundment and possible prosecution.
The Police Commissioner also advised vehicle owners to replace defaced number plates and ensure their vehicles are properly registered to avoid any inconvenience during the enforcement exercise.
