University lecturer advocates establishment of professorial chair to boost research in Nigeria.

Prof. Benjamin Mopah Dauda of the Federal University, Lokoja( FUL), has tasked the three tiers of government,national and multinational companies in Nigeria to establish professorial chair to promote research in technology and academic fields to boost national development.
He also stressed the need for Nigeria to have a thriving research and development unit to engage researchers in solving Nigeria’s various socio-economic problems.
He gave the task on Wednesday while delivering the 15th Inaugural Lecture of FUL in Lokoja.
The don, whose topic of the lecture is “Polymer: Material Driving Technological Advancement,”expressed concern that, whereas Nigeria is blessed with many professors with expertise to offer for the nation’s technological development, they remained under utilised.
He said that big companies such as Dangote group of company and the likes could establish such chair to challenge professors in carrying research into many areas to move the nation to the desired level of technological advancement and nation building.
Prof. Dauda, therefore, urged captains of industry in Nigeria to synergy with the academics and establish thriving research and development unit that would engage researchers in solving Nigeria’s socioeconomic woes.
Daudu, a Professor of Industrial chemistry with speciality in POLYMER, noted that research revealed that Polymer is of great asset and value in propelling the growth of the industrial sector of any country.
He described polymer as having great value in production of plastics, rubbers and rubber bags etc, adding that it has also aided material driving technological advancement of nations across the globe”
In his keynote address at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi commended the Prof. Dauda for outstanding achievements in his academic pursuit and discipline, rating him as worthy of emulation.
A Professorial Chair is awarded to one in recognition of his/her academic excellence and meritorious service in the field of teaching and in research and who has sustained a dynamic scholarly involvement in teaching, research and in community service in accordance with the mission of the University,according to Google.
