With flood almost over in Lokoja and its environs and the characteristic hot weather in the area feasible, requiring consumption of more quantity of potable water to maintain body temperature, residents of Lokoja have urged the management of the water board to gear up efforts for the restoration of potable water in the area.
Concerned residents who spoke with our Correspondent in Lokoja, recently on the issue, noted that the hot weather in Lokoja made it imperative for the supply of drinkable water to the public.
They recalled that though Lokoja township had not had potable water for more than one month due to the flood that affected the equipment for the supply of drinkable water to the public,the board could fasten efforts to put the equipment in order and resume pumping of potable water.
“We may not blame the water board for not supplying drinkable water to the public for the past one month due to its own share of the devasitating effects of the flood.
“However, there is a strong indication that the problem created by flood is fast giving way to normalcy in many areas of social and economic services, meaning that the public wiill need much of drinkable water.
“It will be better, if most of the pumps can be running potable water by now,” Mr Anthony Alabi,a resident of Gadumo said.
“Besides prompting some members of the public to consume unhygienic water with the attendant health hazards, the quick restoration of drinkable water would check any likelihood of producers of table water increasing the price of the commodity.
“As it is now,the demand for consumption of table water is gradually surpassing the supply of the commodity and we all know what this means within the context of the principle of demand and supply in economics ,”Miss Agnes Salami, a National Youth Service Corps member said.
Meanwhile, finding by our Correspondent showed that most of the victims of flood that took temporary accommodation at Gadumo primary school in Ajaokuta in Local Governnent Area of kogi state have returned to their houses, following much receded flood in most parts of the area.
Many of kabawa and marine residents have also gone back to their houses, following similar cheering development after the flood according to investigation by the online news platform.
