The Katsina State Deputy Governor, Mannir Yakubu,has disclosed that the N6.2 billion, released by the Federal government for the development of ranches in the local government areas of the state affected by banditry, would be used to establish grazing reserves in nine local government areas in the state.
Yakubu, who stated this on Monday in Katsina while speaking during the Ranch Stakeholders Development Meeting, listed the frontline local government as Jibia, Batsari, Dutsinma, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari and Sabuwa Dandume among others.
The Deputy Governor, who doubles as Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development,added that part of the money also would be used to construct schools, health centres and veterinary clinics in the affected communities.
He promised that the state government would engage reputable contractors to handle the projects.
Yakubu expressed optimism that the efforts by the federal and the state governments to restore peace and stability to areas affected by banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other criminalities in the state would be achieved.
“We are, therefore, soliciting the support and cooperation of the affected communities to provide suitable sites for the execution of the projects”, Yakubu urged.
