Consumers of electricity in Lokoja, Kogi State on Sunday, expressed joy, following improved energy supply by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company(AEDC).

Those who spoke with our Correspondent on the development in separate interview described it as a cheering news and expressed hope that it would be the beginning of continued steady power supply in the state at large.

Messrs Muhammad Ibrahim, Abdullahi Ismail, Akpanachi Alli, Samuel Adebayo and Miss Catherine Nwachukwu, all residing at Gadumo, told The Reporters that they had been enjoying steady electricity supply for the past 72 hours or more with few exceptions when the light is off.

“The sudden improvement in energy supply in Lokoja took many of us by surprise, given the hitherto not-too-encouraging power output in Lokoja by AEDC.

“I hope that this positive development will be a lasting one,”Nwachukwu said.

Ismail and other interviewees stressed the need for AEDC to sustain the improvement, adding that uninterrupted supply of electricity would motivate consumers to pay their bill as at when due.

“Everybody knows that AEDC needs revenue to keep on supplying energy to the public.

“However, the delay in the settlement of bill comes in when consumers realise that there is no point paying for electricity that is not steady.

“Therefore,I would advise the management of the AEDC to keep giving the public, steady light and they will see the tremendous response of consumers in paying their bill,”Ismail said.

Adebayo argued that with steady energy supply, those using prepaid meter would consume more light and would be forced to recharge and boost revenue generation of AEDC.

According to him, steady energy supply would boost social and economic activities as well as checkmate insecurity in the state.

Mr Femi Yahaha, who works in Abuja but has his family staying in Lokoja said:”Honestly, my wife made comments about the improvement of electricity in Lokoja in recent days.

“This will go a long way to encourage consumers to honour payment of Bill.

“I join to commend the new management for his kindness to the people of the State.”

A senior official of AEDC in Lokoja, who also spoke with our Correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the development was the new thinking of the management of the company in the state.

” We have decided to redirect our thinking towards steady energy to the public, to see if consumers will appreciate and pay their bill promptly to improve our revenue generation and for them to enjoy steady energy supply,” he said.

He, however, stressed that the sustanability of the current steady supply of light would depend on the response of consumers in paying their bill.

“We are hoping that with the new improved energy supply, consumers will reciprocate, through prompt payment of their bill to ensure sustanability of the new development,” he explained.
