Osun Governorship electíon: Sen.Adeleke floors Governor Oyetola

Sen. Ademola Adeleke, Governor-elect of Osun state.

 

Senator Ademola Adeleke(62) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has emerged the winner of the Saturday Governorship electíon in Osun state.

The Returning Officer for the electíon,Prof.Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, disclosed this in Osogbo and declared Adeleke Governor-elect for the state.

He revealed that Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closet rival,the Governor of the state,Mr Adegboyega Adetola,who scored 375,371 votes.

Other electíon results by INEC showed that Akinade Ogunbiyi of A party — 4,514 votes; Awojide Segun, AAC — 2,148; Kehinde Atanda, ADP -10,104; Awoyemi Lukuman, APM — 1,222; and Adebayo Elisha, APP — 601 votes.

Other contestants are:Adeleke Adedapo of BP got 374 votes; Rasaq Saliu, NNPP — 393; Abede Samuel, NRM — 777; Ayowole Adedeji, PRP — 1,007; Omigbodun Akinrinola, SDP — 515; Ademola Adeseye, YPP — 1,303; and Adesuyi Olufemi, ZLP — 364 votes and Lasun Yusuf of LP,
2,729 votes.

Our Correspondent reports that 15 candidates participated in the electíon.

According to the International Center for Investigative Reporting, (ICIR) report, about 1,955,657 voters in 3,763 polling units are believed to have cast their vote in the election.

Meanwhile,  congratulatory messages have started rolling in for the Den Adeleke over his electoral victory.

 

In his congratulatory message, Governor of Edo state,Mr Godwin Obaseki of Edo state said:

“I congratulate the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Osun 2022 governorship election”

“The people of Osun State have made their choice through the ballot, choosing the PDP and our ideals of equity, unity and progress over the retrogressive policies that have had them in dire straits these past years.

“We stand with the people of Osun in sending a clear message to Nigerians that we are prepared and ready to rescue them from the hardship and woes that they have been thrown into.

“We thank the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for sustaining the electoral reforms which started in the September 19, 2020 Edo State governorship election.

 

“These reforms have ensured a peaceful, fair and credible conduct of the election, which gave the people the freedom to elect their preferred candidate.

“As a party, we remain steadfast in our commitment to rescue Nigeria and are, by this victory, fired up to go into the 2023 general elections to win”.
