With November 6 Governorship election in Anambra State around the corner,a community leader in the state,Mrs Edith Nwokedi,has urged women yet to participate actively in the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) through out the country to enable them elect the governor of their choice.
Nwokedi, who hails from Ogboji in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Friday.
According to her, women participation in politics will also afford them the opportunity to be partakers in decision-making process in the affairs of the state and contribute positively to its development.
She stressed that voter’s card remained the power of every woman of voting age(18) to vote in November 6 governorship election, adding that they should replace lost voter cards.
“Women are restorers of broken walls, therefore,they should shun vote buying or electoral inducement to enable them, secure the future of their children,” she appealed.
Nwokedi,who is also an astute Christian mother in the Anglican communion in the area with many many leadership positions and honors to her credit, said “nothing is wrong in women political participation.”
Nwokedi, a business and a women mobiliser and woman coordinator campaign for former Anambra governor, Mr Peter Obi and present governor Chief Willie Obiano, said that the country could not dispense with the role of women in politics.
“What reason do any one have to say that it is abnormal for women to participate in politics, nothing,” she said
Nwokedi who is also woman coordinator, women Advancement for Economic and Leadership Empowerment (WAELE), urged women in rural and urbran dwellers,yet to get voter card to obtain one.
In her contribution,Mrs Ngozi Mbachi, another woman community leader from Aboatulu kindred of Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Council Area of the state, also called on women, especially those of Aboatulu kindred and other rural women in various communities of the state to participate in the exercise.
Mbachi said that CRV was a civic responsibility which every woman of 18 years and above must take seriously.
“ With the voter’s card, we will elect a qualified personality as our governor who would be accountable to the people, we do not need to know who the governor is for our children to get work after school,”she said.
“We do not need to know the governor before our roads are tarred, or before we get good hospitals or schools or even receive our pension,” let us get our voter card and vote rightly,” she appealed.
