Daily Independence correspondent emerges first female secretary, SWAN Niger chapter

The new exco of the Niger state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has been inaugurated with Chinwe Nnadozie of Daily Independence Newspaper ltd, emerged as the first female state secretary of the the association.

George Daniya of Niger State Publishing Company, Newsline newspapers ltd, Minna is the new Chairman of the state to pilot its affairs for the next three years.

Also, Samson Ojogbane of African Independent Television (AIT) also emerged as the new Vce chairman while Chinwendu Nnadozie of Daily Independent Newspapers Ltd emerged the first female State Secretary of SWAN.

Speaking at the inauguration/swearing-ii at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) Pen House, Minna,the the Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Emmanuel Umar, called for sustenance of working relatinshio between SWAN and the Ministry for the growth and development of sports in the state.

The Commissioner, who spoke through the Director of Sports, Comrade Sheshi Katcha said the ministry welcomed criticisms by SWAN as part of driving force that propelled it to act on issues that affect Sports

He,however added that such reports must not be geared toward destroying existing bond between the two.

The National Treasurer of the NUJ, Comrade Mohammed, who presided over the inauguration, admonished the new executive to bring back the lost glory of SWAN by initiating sporting programmes that would encourage existing and new members to join SWAN, act and speak with one voice when the need arises.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Abdul Idris, who was represented by the Council Secretary, Abu Nmodu, enjoined the new executive to work toward bringing SWAN in the state to be the envy of other associations.

Idris, who described the new SWAN executive as composition of people with proven integrity, however reminded them that, “Leadership is about sacrifices and service to humanity, please don’t take it too high.”

Also speaking, the North-Central zonal Secretary, SWAN, Abu Hassan, commended the Chairman of the Interim Management Team,SWAN, Dan Amasingha, and his team for successfully conducting election that produced the just inaugurated executive and encouraged them to work as a team in order to attain desired goal.

Other members of the new executive included; Malam Abdulrazak Bayo Oguntuwase (Radio Niger) as Treasurer, Comrade Alhassan Kutigi (NSTA) Financial Secretary and RabiuAbubarkar Gimba (Prestige FM) as Welfare Officer.
