The gridlock that emerged along Lokoja Ganaja road in Kogi state on Monday, has begun to ease, following the arrival of men of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) and those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Corps(NSCD) to control traffic.

The Reporters correspondent reports that the arrival of the security personnel, motorists and other road users went through hard time passing through the road, as a result of rehabilitation on the road as well as human factor, The Reporters reports.

Our correspondent who earlier visited the road at about 10 a.m reports that gridlock took over the one lane left for motorists while commercial motorcyclists and tricycle operators squeezed their vehicles within the available space to get out of transportation lodjam.

The Reporters gathered the problem is further compounded by human factor as exemplified by impatience of drivers and tricycle operators blocking the chances of the incoming vehicles to have their way.

The Reporters’correspondent reports that the gridlock, which started from popular Ganaja junction, has reached new Ganadumo village, approaching 500 housing unit as at the time of this report.

As a result, many residents of the area, a surbub of Lokoja, including civil servants said they had been forced to abadon their trip, pending when normalcy returns to the road.

When our correspondent returned to the same location at 11.30 p.m, some road safety and civil defence men were seen enforcing drivers to obey traffic rules and regulations, a development that paved way for slow movement of vehicles on the basis of one lane after the other.

The online recalls that the Federal government began the rehabilitation of the road last week to ease transportation on the road, especially during Yuletide among others factors.

Many drivers who spoke with our correspondent on the issue, had earlier called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and police to deplore their personnel to arrest the situation before it gets out of control.

Concerned members of the public who spoke on the issue with our correspondent, called on the company handling the project to introduce night work to hasten the completion of the rehabilitation.

The road is a major link between the northern states, including to the eastern and south eastern part of Nigeria.
